Q: What is Freeze Drying?
Freeze drying is a water removal process typically used to preserve. It works by freezing the material, reducing the pressure, and adding heat to allow the frozen water to change directly to a vapor. More on freeze drying can be found at https://www.millrocktech.com/lyosight/lyobrary/what-is-freeze-drying/ and https://harvestright.com/how-it-works/. We use a Harvest Right freeze dryer.
Q: What is the Cottage Foods Act of Colorado?
The Cottage Foods Act allows limited types of food that do not require refrigeration for safety to be sold directly to consumers (you!) without licensing or inspection. There are steps taken to ensure safety and proper food handling, as well as packaging guidlines and training.
Q: How Do You keep the Community Safe?
All staff at Freeze Dried by Ashley have gone through a Food Safety Course and obtained Food Safety Certification that will be renewed as needed. All surfaces are wiped down and disinfected between each batch, trays are disinfected and covered with new paper each batch, and our staff wear gloves and tie back their hair during the packaging process.
